- Silakkamarkkinoita on järjestetty vuodesta 1743!
- The Herring Market has been held annually at the start of October since 1743 and is the oldest event held in the city. Fishermen from all along the south coast of Finland sell their best products, including a wide and exotic variety of marinated Baltic herring as well as dark bread from the archipelago.
- Le marché aux harengs se tient annuellement au début d'octobre depuis 1743. C'est le plus ancien évenement de la ville. Les pêcheurs de la côte sud de Finlande viennent vendre leurs meilleurs produits. Des harengs et du pain noir sous toutes les formes. Délicieux!

- La liste des produits à acheter comporte du hareng sous toutes les formes: salé, mariné, fumé, à l'aneth, à l'ail, aux baies de genièvre, au poivre rose, etc... Ce producteur vient de la ville de Sipoo (Siboo en suédois), ville frontalière d'Helsinki.

- Sami Garam ja Janne Pekkala viihdyttivät yleisöä kokkaillen silakkaherkkuja. Makupalat-ohjelma tuli Jannesta mieleen. Ohjelman ruoallinen anti oli kyseenalaista, mutta vetäjät symppiksiä. Näin jäimme aikoinaan jumiin em. tv-ohjelmaan.
- These 2 tv chefs entertain the crowd by cooking herrings live. The chef on the right is Janne Pekkala. He's well known across Finland for having hosted the famous cooking show "Makupalat". The show itself was great, but the food - and Janne admits freely with a bit of humor that it was not always on top, was truly awful. Cult stuff!

Celui de droite en particulier est spécial. Son nom est Janne Pekkala, et à la fin des années 90, il présentait une émission de cuisine à la télé "Makupalat" ("Amuses Bouche") qui depuis est devenue culte. La raison? La nourriture cuisinée était vraiment mauvaise. Mais comme Janne l'admet aujourd'hui avec beaucoup d'humour, il n'était pas toujours au top!

"The Burger Kiosk" is an institution in Oulu. Junk food paradise! The best burgers in the whole country can be found here in Oulu. Well... according to Saila who's a native of the city.
Speaking about this particular kiosk "Kino Grilli" (meaning "the Theater Diner"), i've been many time myself, and the sheer pleasure has always been stronger than the guilt.
