Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote - Islas Canarias March 2016

Welcome to the Canary Island of Lanzarote

Our villa  for 2 weeks

A 2nd bedroom to the left, stairs to 2nd floor - 3rd bedroom and roof terrasse.

Stunning view!

Puerto del Carmen - marina

En route to Puerto Calero by foot - a 3km something walk.

Puerto Calero at last... thirsty!

Amura. Great place to chill out in a "colonial ambiance"... and a great restaurant.
(for more Amura, click "Lanzarote" tag and see messages of the previous years)

Now, that's what we call a terrasse! One of the most relaxing place we've been along the years.

Tapas, cold beers, sun and ocean view... what else? (surely not that sh*tty Nespresso!!)

En route to "Taberna de Nino" restaurant.
(we used to have diner at spanish hours = later in the night to avoid the legions of brits)

Welcome to one of the 3 best Tapas restaurant of the whole island.
(and Ipi won't argue with that!)

The list is updated every few weeks - 1/3 of the tapas were changed during our stay.
We probably have eaten a good 70% of the tapas on these lists!

No41 on the list.

No32 and a personal favorite. Better than in a chinese joint!

A walk in the city of Arrecife.

Lunch at restaurant "Tasca la Raspa". Undisputed No1 for tapas in Arrecife.
It doesn't look much from the outside, but the food... boy!

Pimientos de Padron = grilled green peppers. Saila's all time favorite.

"Bacalao" (salted cod) with piperade salsa, fried egg and chips (breakfast thing)

Lamb meatballs in a tomato-cuttlefish sauce. Odd mix, but it works great.

Stop at Valery for dessert. Very decent pastry shop.

Diner at "La Cascada". Probably the best steak house in the island.
(being foodies, we always do restaurants "research" before we go somewhere. Hence
the word "best" we use often. Just trying to avoid the "turista club" membership)

This list of "specials" comes in addition to the"normal" list.

"El Grifo" dry white is a truly great wine. The vineyards - on volcanos slopes - have their roots in volcano ashes, hence the very mineral taste. The winery is the oldest of the Canaries (1755) and among the ten oldest in Spain (we averaged 1 or 2 bottles a day, depending of the weather!).

400gr char grilled veal chop and spanish wild mushroom "risotto".

"Leche frite" or fried milk. Classic spanish dessert (served with a fig ice cream)

En route to the island of Fuerteventura.

Las Dunas - The Dunes
A 12km long stunning beach with white sand, green ocean... and nudists!
Despite that, we've spent some days here. Chill out at its best.

Lunch at restaurant "La Tegala".
La Tegala is THE fine dining place of Lanzarote Michelin (wannabe) style,
considered by some as the top dog on the island. Or is it?...

Hmm... Something's not quite right.
It's 2pm and the dining room is still completely empty. Eerie...
(you can read our review on Trip Advisor... if you have nothing else to do)

Our usual El Grifo fix.

Beer & snack stop at "Dreams", a lounge bar with dj, shisha pipes and ocean view.
(best enjoyed at night)

Now, that is a view!

Along with "Taberna de Nino" and "Tasca la Raspa", restaurant Bodega deals the best tapas.
The locals can't be wrong (can they?).

The arch classics: Bellota Jamon & tostadas.
Bellota IS the best ham money can buy. Better than Iberico.

Grilled scallps & mojo

Goat kebab.

Char grilled octopus and caramelized green & red mojo sauces.

Black pudding croquettes and tomato chutney.

Nor really spanish... but damn good!

The last breakfast before heading to the airport.
