Christmas Lunch at restaurant Sankt Annae - Copenhagen 23.12.2015

We have this tradition to go to Copenhagen every year during the festive period. In fact, the real reason for the trip is to go to our favorite danish restaurant "Sankt Annae" and their famed Christmas Lunch. The very last lunch of the year served before the winter break is very sought after. That's why we booked our table back in May during our last trip there. One of the very best restaurant experience anywhere.

What to choose? everything is always so damn delicious.

well, at least it's good to start with a pint of danish beer...

... and akvavit is highly recommended - cause food is not the lightest one

The Akvavit list helps you to make the right choice... if you read danish!

The Christmas lunch starts with "Lobster salad and toast"

so tasty!

To the second course with "3 kinds of marinated herrings"
(traditional old fashion, blackberry and with remoulade sauce)

       Perfect!

Then "marinated salmon with sweet danish dill mustard and rye bread"

and "luke warm liver paté with fried bacon and mushrooms"
(with pickled sweet pumpkin and beetroots)

Last course before dessert: "frikadeller" - meatballs - with new potato salad.
(how they still had some at this time of year is a total mystery)

Fantastisk

Finally, the "Risalamande" - rice and almonds pudding with warm cherry sauce.
Old school danish Christmas dessert so simple and yet, one of the best thing ever.

Heaven!

Coffee and vintage port wine

After the lunch, happiness was flowing through our veins - along with 3 pints of lager each,
and we staggered away from the restaurant, stuffed like mad turkeys!
