Ravintola Juustobistro - Vanha Kauppahalli 30.6.2012

The Old Market Hall

During spring and summer, the old market hall is crowded with tourists. sure the finns do their shopping as well, but is primarily a tourist place with all the folklore and inflated prices you'd expect in such a place. but if you forget the visitors who tour the place for 1sec. what you can find here is some of the best and finest delicatessen money can buy in Helsinki. fresh as well as smoked or marinated fishes & shellfishes, international deli (french, italian, etc..), all kinds of breads, cheeses, fresh & cured meat, etc. but sheer quality has its price, and the price is... high. that's why we first go to our local supermarket, and when we want to buy some extras (usually french stuffs like cheeses, cured sausages or special meat like chicken or duck from France), or have a snack when being around, we come here. i'm maybe not a tourist anymore myself, but i still enjoy the place.
great atmosphere... and smells!

one of the many little cafe & restaurants inside the hall.

fishes, fishes, fishes...

... and again

and again...

and again...

and again, but this time in open sandwiches.

rye breads on sale.

along the food, you can buy the tools to cook it.

chocolates, lots of them. you can be sure to see Saila nearby!

Rudolf's kingdom.

you knew Rudolf the red nose reindeer. how about Rudolf the kebab king!

Rudolf looks tired hanging on the wall.

Roslund... one of my favorite shops in Helsinki. If like me you're a french looking for french food, don't look no further. meat, cured meat, all kind of patés and more. even Stockmann, the big department store doesn't have this level of quality.

Juustobistro (Juusto = cheese)
Tämän paikan ohi olemme kävelleet lukuisat kerrat. Tänään ajattelimme, että juustobistrosta saa varmasti erilaisia juustoihin perustuvia annoksia. Piristävän tuntuinen paikka kebab-paikkojen keskellä. Istumaan siis. Menulista roikkui pyykkinarulla.
Tulos: ei tarvitse mennä toistamiseen.

Finland in a plate: smoked/salted/boiled salmon trilogy, vendances (very small fishes usually fried in a large pan - "muikut" in finnish), boiled egg, potato salad and rye bread.

marinated hering filets with salad.

sh*t coffee
(in finnish, "paska"means sh*t - the coffee is italien, but reads like czech or slovakian)
